On an amazing and truly memorable day for sport, when a cricket World Cup was decided on the number of boundaries scored, and Wimbledon hosted a 5 set thriller decided on a tie break, the UK U13 Girls Regional Tournament culminated in sensational hockey and medals also decided by the narrowest of margins.

The tournament final saw South Saxons play the North East in a very closely fought game, and with the scores tied at 3-3, the winners were decided on a tense and exciting penalty shoot out which South Saxons won.

The same happened in the 3rd/4th play offs in which Mercian Marauders were narrowly beaten by Saxons South in a penalty shoot out, after the match was drawn 4-4 in normal time.

In the Trophy competition – many congratulations go to South Wales who overcame a very determined West Panthers team to win the tournament.  What a day!!!  So much sporting drama, so many new friends made, and so much outstanding hockey played!!  Brilliant.

Lilia Oldfield (North East) was named outfield player of the tournament, and Katherine Don Wauchope (South Saxons) was named GK of the tournament.  Once again, huge thanks to all the coaches, managers, parents, and officials who make it happen.

Many thanks also to the Nottingham Hockey Centre for hosting the event and to Hockey Today, the tournament’s official photographers.  Please look at livehockey.co.uk to purchase your game and relive the memories. All action shots can be found on hockeytoday.co.uk.
